The PS-220 – Analog Controller

The PS-220 Analog LEAKWISE Controller serves as both a power supply and signal processor, interfacing with a single LEAKWISE ID-220 Series Sensor. It reports hydrocarbon spill/leak alerts, including hydrocarbon layer buildup and thickness, through local and remote outputs. With its proven reliability, the PS-220 offers a cost-effective solution for basic monitoring systems. Its versatile power options allow for either AC or DC line powering.

Applications:

The PS-220, paired with any LEAKWISE ID-220 Series Sensors, is typically used for oil spill/leak monitoring in various industrial settings. These include storage tank sumps, wastewater treatment discharge points, hydrocarbon pipeline pumping stations, hydroelectric and fossil fuel power plants, transformer substations, groundwater monitoring wells, and remediation sites.

Features:

  • Energy-efficient design with low power consumption
  • Integrated self-diagnostics for both controller and sensor
  • Streamlined calibration process
  • Dual adjustable alarm points for setting oil detection sensitivity

Principle of Operation:

The PS-220 provides a stabilized 12 VDC power supply to the sensor. It then filters and amplifies the current signal returned from the sensor. This processed signal is compared against two adjustable alarm set-points to determine the sensor’s status: Water, Oil, High-Oil, or Air, depending on the application.

The controller features two relay outputs with dry contacts for status reporting, and an additional fail-safe operated relay that alerts during sensor or power failures. A low-pass filter can be activated to prevent false alarms in turbulent water conditions. For enhanced monitoring, an optional 4-20 mA output reports oil layer thickness and trend, while an optional Bar-Graph provides visual representation of the oil layer thickness on the front panel, in addition to the standard status lights.
